The Trocadero originated when Grandma Maria Pantalone wished to share her homespun Abruzzese culinary talents and opened her doors on June 6, 1944, the same day that victory in Europe was declared otherwise known as "D Day."

She named her restaurant the Trocadero, perhaps after hearing about the historical Place du Trocadero in Paris, France, a commemorative monumental site following the French invasion of the Spanish in 1823; and perhaps just a feeling it was a strong sounding placename suitable for a daring enterprise (considering she was a middle-aged mother of four during a time when there were few female entrepreneurial role models).

Indeed, nothing stays exactly the same. Remarkably, eight decades have passed, and much has changed "at Grandma's house," the original site of "the Troc." Today, Grandaughter Lois works to maintain the "essence" of what was, by continuing the tradition of "homemade" dishes that combine the quality of fresh ingredients, meticulous skills and classic Italian recipes.

Over the years, many patrons have asked the meaning or origin of the name Trocadero. To us, it simply means “a toast to family tradition.”
